Hey Leighna,

I really enjoyed reading your article! It's very well written and captivating. I want to go give Rosie a hug! I loved hearing your description of the neighborhood--I felt like I was there again. I guess I didn't realize how tough life is for a lot of the empregadas. My family in Sao Paulo didn't have an empregada, and the one in Salvador treated their empregada pretty well. Cheers on being published! Talk to you soon.

Leighna,
This story gave me chills. Even though I have seen your documentary on Rosie, reading your words and invisioning what it was like for this woman with such limitations, yet with so much heart, just brought me to tears. I could read this over and over. I absolutely love it, amazing job!!!

Thank you all so much for your comments. And Trent thank you especially for pointing out the fact that despite it all, there's a real soulful quality about the people -- that they can have so little and still find ways to really enjoy life. Like many places, Brazil is a country of vast disparity. Because of this, the poor find themselves at the mercy of chance; the quality of their future all comes down to the type of person they end up working for. Not all situations are like Rosie's, some are much better and some far worse. Thanks again for reading and be sure to think good thoughts for Rosie...

Leighna, this beautifully told story led me through so many thoughts and feelings. In the end, I was happy that at least sometimes, Rosie and Cristina can escape to the lighthouse. Thanks for seeing the story and for telling it.

Leighna, you have managed to take a hard subject, or what you'd say in Spanish, algo muy duro, and beautify it through Rosie's story. By bringing things like this to people's attention and making them aware, we are one step closer- regardless of being only one person- to a new understanding, appreciation and hopefully and eventually mobilization against the trials and turmoil people like Rosie face... beautiful piece and I am
